Grand Prix Unveiils Trackside Murals

Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan Students Reveal Creative Designs Reflecting Detroit to be Displayed Trackside During Event Weekend

DETROIT, Mich. (May 7, 2025) – Strengthening its connection with neighborhoods and communities across Detroit, the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear today unveiled murals created by students from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan (BGCSM) that will be proudly displayed on trackside barrier walls during the Grand Prix, May 30-June 1, on the Streets of Downtown Detroit.

Utilizing digital design technology, Boys & Girls Clubs students ranging in age from 12 to 16 created unique mural designs that honor the diverse neighborhoods in the City of Detroit. All seven murals unveiled Tuesday capture the spirit of the Motor City while reinforcing the strong connection the Grand Prix has with the community. Through the generous support of its key Community Partners at American Axle Manufacturing, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Delta Dental, Delta Airlines, DTE Foundation, Henry Ford Health, Huntington Bank and PNC Bank, the Grand Prix has opened its arms even wider to the community since its return to Downtown Detroit in 2023.

The Grand Prix provides a platform for the students' artwork to shine at one of Detroit's most popular annual summertime festivals. Measuring 12 feet long and three feet high, each of the murals will be placed on the barrier walls surrounding the Downtown Detroit race circuit, in front of the viewing platforms on Jefferson Avenue that will be open and accessible to fans completely free of charge all weekend long at the Grand Prix.

"We are excited to once again showcase the creativity and artistic skills of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan students and share these special murals with the world on Grand Prix weekend in the Motor City,” said Michael Montri, President of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. "Thanks to the support of our dedicated Community Partners, the Grand Prix is able to create and foster unique engagement opportunities that give students across the City of Detroit an opportunity to shine. The Grand Prix helps celebrate our city's rich culture and the incredible talent within our community. We are proud to display these student-designed murals throughout our event for the third consecutive year.”

The murals were created by students in the BGCSM Digital Design Industry Club. Through the club, the talented young artists learned about the history of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear, dating back to 1982, and the event’s heritage on the Streets of Downtown Detroit. Guided by the expertise of graphic designer Zoe Talley, the students honed their digital design skills using Adobe Illustrator, while transforming their creative visions into stunning murals. After working on their art for more than six weeks, the BGCSM students submitted their final designs and seven winning murals – reflecting the seven districts in Detroit – were selected to be displayed trackside during Grand Prix weekend.

On Tuesday, NTT INDYCAR SERIES driver Santino Ferrucci and INDY NXT by Firestone driver Myles Rowe helped BGCSM students unveil the winning mural designs. Continuing to support the creative culture in Detroit, College for Creative Studies (CCS) sophomore Eli Archer also got an opportunity to showcase his digital design skills Tuesday as he unveiled the Official 2025 Detroit Grand Prix commemorative poster. Archer won the annual Grand Prix Poster Design Competition, highlighting the talents of CCS students. Archer’s colorful creation captured the thrill of racing on the Streets of Downtown Detroit while focusing on the Grand Prix’s connection to the local community and the summertime vibe of the Motor City. The 2025 commemorative poster will be available for purchase online later this week at www.DetroitGP.com, in advance of the upcoming Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear.
