DETROIT, Mich. (September 16, 2025) – Race fans will once again wave the green flag on summer in the Motor City with the annual stop for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES confirmed for Sunday, May 31 at the 2026 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear.
INDYCAR revealed its 2026 season schedule on Tuesday, including the date for the series’ race on the 1.7-mile street circuit on the Streets of Detroit. Next year’s event will mark the 36th Grand Prix weekend in Detroit’s history with practice, qualifying and race action set to take place on its traditional spot on the calendar – the weekend following Memorial Day (May 29-31, 2026), building off the excitement of the Indianapolis 500.
The three-day event will once again feature racing, music and family fun in the heart of Downtown Detroit, adding to the tradition of one of the Motor City’s most popular annual summertime festivals. The 2026 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear will represent the fourth consecutive year of the event’s return to its original home on the Streets of Downtown Detroit.
Next summer’s Grand Prix weekend will build on the momentum from an incredibly successful 2025 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. This year’s event attracted approximately 156,000 people to Downtown Detroit over the three-day weekend, representing a 4% increase in total attendance from both 2023 and 2024. According to Nielsen ratings, the NTT INDYCAR SERIES race broadcast from Detroit on Sunday, June 1 delivered an average audience of 1.061 million viewers across the FOX network and FOX streaming services, which represented a 75% increase from the 2024 race broadcast. It marked the highest viewership for the Detroit Grand Prix since 2021.
Fans watching in person and at home witnessed one of the most competitive and entertaining races in Detroit Grand Prix history. Sunday’s NTT INDYCAR SERIES race, won by Kyle Kirkwood of Andretti Global, featured 261 on-track passes, the most since the event transitioned to the Downtown Detroit street circuit in 2023. The record results included 181 passes for position – a Detroit Grand Prix record (including all INDYCAR races hosted on both the Belle Isle track as well as the Streets of Detroit circuit). Both the 261 on-track passes and the 181 passes for position rank as the most on an INDYCAR street circuit since 2022.
“We are excited to confirm the race dates for next season as the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear will return to the Streets of the Motor City, May 29th through May 31st in 2026,” said Michael Montri, President of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear. “With the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, as well as the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, both returning to the Downtown Detroit street circuit, it’s going to be another memorable weekend on track for fans and we look forward to adding even more fun and excitement off the track as well for people to enjoy over the course of the three-day event.”
Today’s 2026 schedule announcement also confirms that FOX will once again broadcast all of the action from the 2026 Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear on the FOX network and across the FOX streaming services. The 2025 NTT INDYCAR SERIES race in Detroit ranked as the fourth-highest rated race broadcast in FOX’s inaugural season serving as the exclusive television broadcast partner, trailing only the Indianapolis 500, the opening race of the season in St. Petersburg and the season finale in Nashville. Locally, Detroit also ranked as the top market across the United States for the Sunday, June 1 NTT INDYCAR SERIES race broadcast, drawing a 3.04 rating and a 14.25 share on FOX 2 Detroit.
